Health and Physical Education
In the current climate, where we are constantly being reminded of the dangers associated with childhood obesity, we educate our students to make responsible decisions about their health and physical well being. In Years 8 and 9 students are given the opportunity to work to develop a wide range of skills by experiencing a varied range of sports and activities. We regularly compete against other schools in Football (soccer), Australian Rules Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Netball as well as entering teams in Lightning Carnivals. In Year 10 students get the opportunity to further expand their experiences if they choose to opt for Outdoor Recreation. Here they are given a chance to sample Archery, Golf, ‘Darklight', Fishing, Indoor Beach Volleyball, Beach Activities and First Aid. A Specialist Australian Rules Football option is also available for year 10 students. Year 11 and 12 Students will embark on Physical Education Courses of Study.
Soccer Academy
Since 2000 Clarkson Community High School has been one of the State's acknowledged specialist soccer schools. The school currently has 125 students who follow an elite training programme through years 8 to 12 designed to help each student develop to his or her maximum potential. The students work on skills and fitness using world's best practice methods employed by top English Premier League coaches whilst constantly striving to develop their understanding of the game. The Academy students represent the school in ‘The State Champion Schools Trophy'. This year, 2006, 28 of our players toured the Gold Coast region of Queensland . We played boys and girls fixtures against Specialist Schools from the region including the reigning Queensland state champions. We intend for this to be an annual tour. Students are selected for the programme whilst in Year 7, although students new to the school may join the Academy if they are of a sufficiently high standard. Parents looking for more information about the Academy should contact the school and ask to speak to Gary Kalaher or Patrick Rooney. Application forms are available from the school.
