Society & Environment
The ultimate aim of Society and Environment is promote informed participation in our society. Students are encouraged to;
Years 8 -10 Students examine the above concepts within the Western Australian Curriculum Framework. Year 8 and 9 students typically examine the natural world and our society using West Australian and Australian examples. By Year 10, the focus has moved to a more global perspective with the emphasis on world-wide problems such as conflict and environmental damage. All students have the opportunity to take part in extension activities throughout the year such as the Premier's ANZAC Student Tour and the Simpson Prize. Year 11/12 Society and Environment subjects offered at Clarkson Community high School include:
Completion of the above subjects offers students the opportunity to apply for University, TAFE and employment in a variety of fields such as education, commerce, journalism, cartography, surveying, human resources and environmental protection. More subjects will become available as more courses are included in the Curriculum Framework for Years 11 and 12.
English The study of English promotes an appreciation of literature such as short stories and novels as well as other text forms including films and drama. Students are also expected to develop critical thinking skills by examining the techniques used by all writers and the wider media to engage and persuade an audience. Students are encouraged to:
In Years 8 and 9 students study the above concepts within the Western Australian Curriculum Framework. In Year 8 and 9 emphasis is given to improving students' literacy, particularly in the Reading and Writing Aspects of this learning area. In Year 10, students have the opportunity to complete extension activities.; Year 11/12 English subjects offered at Clarkson Community High School are the English Course of Study selections; units 1A and 1B, 1C, 1D, 2A and 2B .
