The ultimate aim of Society and Environment is promote informed participation in our society. Students are encouraged to;

  • Develop an understanding of the society in which we live. This includes the political, geographical, economic and social aspects of Australian society. Students also have the opportunity to compare Australia with other societies.
  • Examine how we interact with others from a different cultural background
  • Engage in proactive citizenship
  • Preserve and protect the natural environment
  • Become independent life-long learners.

Years 8 -10

Students examine the above concepts within the Western Australian Curriculum Framework. Year 8 and 9 students typically examine the natural world and our society using West Australian and Australian examples. By Year 10, the focus has moved to a more global perspective with the emphasis on world-wide problems such as conflict and environmental damage. All students have the opportunity to take part in extension activities throughout the year such as the Premier's ANZAC Student Tour and the Simpson Prize.
